London Chinatown restaurant fire, Firefighters battle with huge fire.
A large fire has broken out in Chinatown in Central London with thick smoke pouring out from the building.
The London Fire Brigade are currently at the scene this morning (Sunday, September 22) with a number of fire engines.
From photos that have been shared on social media the fire appears to be in a restaurant called New China on Newport Place.
Multiple hose pipes can be seen running into the building through the restaurants front door.
Firefighters are using large ladders to reach the high points of the burning building
The smoke from the fire can be seen across London.
Fire brigade statement
The fire brigade have made a statement on the challenging fire in Chinatown today:
Twelve fire engines and around 80 firefighters were called to a fire at a restaurant on Gerrard Street in Chinatown.
Part of the first and second floor and part of the roof of the end of terrace building were alight.
Four people left the property before the Brigade arrived and firefighters wearing breathing apparatus led a further two people to safety via an internal staircase.
There are no reports of any injuries.
The Brigade was called at 8.39am and the fire was under control by 11.28am.
Fire crews from Soho, Euston, Lambeth, Paddington and surrounding fire stations were at the scene.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
