Irish musician, who converted to Islam in 2018, apologized for saying she “never wants to spend time with white people again” claiming she was “angry and unwell”

Sinead O’Connor, who now goes by the Islamic name Shuhada’ Davitt has apologized for her saying she “never wants to spend time with white people again”. She made the apology for her October 2018 Twitter tirade on Twitter after appearing on RTE’s Late Late show on Friday.

The Irish singer-songwriter, known for her 1990 smash-hit cover of Prince’s Nothing Compares 2U, posted a series of messages on Twitter calling all non-Muslims “disgusting” and criticizing Christian and Jewish theologians. O’Connor converted to Islam in 2018 and changed her name to Shuhada’ Davitt.

On Monday she also posted “Any advice on how to retort cleverly when you get called a ‘sand monkey’ ? [sic]”

On Friday (Sept 6) O’Connor was interviewed by Ryan Tubridy on RTE’s Late Late Show. Opening up about her recent change in religion she said “I never thought I’d join another religion. I left Islam till last as I had so much prejudice about Islam, you know,” she admitted.

“I read chapter two of the Qu’ran and I realized I’m home, and that I’ve been a Muslim all my life. There’s a way of thinking.

“You can be a Muslim without actually being a Muslim as it’s a headset.”

She explained further: “A Muslim is someone who believes nothing should be worshipped except God.

“In the same way I would have embraced Christianity, there’s things I like and things I don’t like; things I identify with and things I don’t.”

The Irish star appeared on the Late Late ahead of her Irish tour in October 2019. She also performed Nothing Compares 2U live.
