John Wall finish college, already out for this season.

John Wall, who was already out for this season, will miss a good chunk of the next one after tearing his Achilles. However, Wall plans to get the most out of his time away from the league. Wall will reportedly use the time to finish earning his college degree on top of rehabbing. The guard says he’s “close to graduation,” according to The Athletic’s Fred Katz.

Wall only played a single season at Kentucky before making the leap to the NBA. Being anywhere near on track to graduate in the next year means that Wall has been filling the few gaps in his playing schedule with coursework.

It’s been a rough few months for Wall and the Wizards. The centerpiece of Washington’s plans for the future underwent surgery on his Achilles on Jan. 8. The incision from that surgery became infected and doctors discovered that his Achilles had ruptured while cleaning that wound. Wall reportedly re-injured his Achilles tendon from a slip and fall in his home.

Prior to the injury, Wall averaged over 20 points per game for the Wizards. Next season will be the first year of his massive max contract extension, in which he’s due for $170 million over four years.
