Top: Nobel Peace Prize honors sexual violence fight by Denis Mukwege, Nadia Murad


OSLO, Norway —

The Nobel Peace Prize on Friday was awarded to a Congolese physician and a Yazidi former captive of the Islamic State group for his or her work to focus on and remove the usage of sexual violence as a weapon of struggle.

Denis Mukwege and Nadia Murad “have made a vital contribution to focusing consideration on, and combating, such struggle crimes,” the Norwegian Nobel Committee stated in its announcement.
