Pompeo cites ‘increasing and specific threats’ for closing US consulate in Iraq, warns Iran (Reports)


The U.S. is briefly closing its consulate in Basra, Iraq, citing “rising and particular threats and incitement to assault our personnel and amenities” by Iran, in line with Secretary of State Mike Pompeo. He warned the U.S. would “reply promptly and appropriately” to any such assault.
